Join us for a weekend of community, teaching, and connection.

November 5 – 7, 2021

If you’re a graduate of The Rubart Writing Academy, you’re in! We can’t wait to be together with everyone again. Plus, it’ll be such a cool chance for grads who attended different Academies to meet one another and create strong connections. That’s what has happened the last two years and we’re thinking it will happen again.

There are only ten spots available, so we suggest signing up (way) sooner than later!

A time to come together, to get an update of what’s going on in your life and writing journey, get some stellar new ideas and teaching, get time with Jim and Taylor, and most importantly, get the chance to simply be around each other.  Community, fellowship, hearing each other’s stories. Encouragement. Motivation. And a huge dose of laughter.

From 4:00pm on November 5 – to 11:00am on November 7, 2021. It’s a beautiful time to be in the Seattle Area. The leaves are turning, and colors are dynamic.

For a full schedule, you can scroll down the page.

The reunion will be held in Woodinville, 15 miles from Seattle in a private home. We think it’s important to keep the intimate feeling we have at The Academy.

You’ll learn new teachings you can use immediately things, be encouraged, meet new people, and reconnect with those you already know. (We’ll also laugh a lot, but you already knew that.)

Designing the Second Half of Your Life

By Jim Rubart

In the first session, Jim will show us how to design the second half of our lives so we can maximize our impact in three areas; career, our personal life, and our spiritual life.

During the first half of our life, we set the foundation, we build the house. We have a career and often have families. But what happens next? Where do we go from there?

If we want everything God has for us, we make a plan for the second half that will give us purpose, passion, and help us reach those dreams we weren’t ready for when we were younger.

Are you ready to learn how to design a second half that will bring you hope and faith in ways you’ve haven’t experienced before? Hope so, ’cause that’s what you’re gonna get!

Day 2 – Saturday, November 6

9:00am - 10:00am

Seattle, WA

One Ring to Rule Them All

By Jim Rubart

As Randy Ingermanson says, “Copywriting is the One Ring that rules them all.” In other words, strong copywriting is more critical to your success than any other skill.

You’re probably saying, “Yeah, great Jim, you talked about this at the Academy, but how do you exactly do it?!”

During this session, you’ll learn how. We’ll take you through the fundamentals of copywriting and show you a formula you can use for any copywriting challenge.

10:15am - 11:00am

Seattle, WA

How to Re-Think

By Taylor Rubart

We often cling onto our first idea, and don’t want to change our ideas. But not changing our ideas means we stagnate. We’ll learn how some of the best minds re-think often, and be challenged on some of the things we should re think in our writing and in our lives.

11:00am - 12:30pm

Seattle, WA

Copy Writing Real World Examples Review

This session will be extremely hands on. Jim and Taylor will not only review, but help you rewrite (on the spot) your copy. (If you choose, no pressure to show.) Not only will you learn a tremendous amount by seeing how your copy is changed, you’ll learn from seeing everyone else’s copy reworked and edited. (We’re thinking you’re going to LOVE this session.)

12:30am - 1:30am

Seattle, WA

Time to eat!

1:30am - 2:30pm

Seattle, WA

Open Discussion

By Jim & Taylor

We’ll have at least two hours of Open Forum where you can ask questions about anything and everything regarding where you’re at in your journey, or you can throw out things you want the group to help you brainstorm on. It could be anything from input about your website to your latest book idea to how to get your dog to quit bugging you when you’re in the middle of a writing session.

2:30am - 4:30am

Seattle, WA

Free Time (And One on Ones)

This will be a chance to go deeper with a fellow grad you haven’t talked to in a while, or the chance to get to know a grad you’ve just met. Or you can go for a walk by yourself or with others, drive down to Lake Washington and explore, or simply hang out with the group and enjoy the conversations.

And Taylor and Jim will doing one-on-one sessions with everyone (so if you do drive down to the lake, make sure you’re back in time for your one-on-one!)

5:00pm - 6:30pm

Group Dinner

We’ll head out for dinner together at a local restaurant then come back and play a card game that’s swept the nation called Exploding Kittens.

Day 3 – Sunday, November 7

8:30am - 10:00am

Seattle, WA

Gather & Worship

We’ll have a short time of worship together, then Jim and Taylor will play a few of their favorite movies clips (ones you haven’t seen) and unpack them for you.

9:30am - 11:00am

Seattle, WA

Final Exercise

By Jim Rubart

We’ll finish with an exercise we think will surprise, encourage, and fill you with life. We’ll then say our goodbyes…until next year 🙂

Once you register, we’ll send you a welcome packet with more information. We can’t WAIT to see you again.

Hopefully the following will answer all your questions about the reunion so you can know what to plan for. If we missed anything, please let us know!

Q: How many grads can attend? Is there a limit?

A: Yes, there is a limit. We’re going to cap it at 10, simply due to space and our desire for intimacy. Since there are 70+ grads eligible we encourage you to sign up sooner than later. To be fair, registration will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Q: Will we learn new material?

A: Yes. Jim and Taylor are preparing new material to teach on things they’ve been learning — all things you can apply to your writing life and beyond.

Q: Where should we stay?

A: We suggest staying in the house we’re holding the Academy at. For $64 a night, you’ll get a shared bed. For your own room, it’s $128 a night. These too will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Q: Are meals included?

A: Some are included:

  • Dinner on Friday night
  • Lunch on Saturday
  • Snacks throughout our time together
  • There are grocery stores close to the house where you can pick up food to cook in the home if you choose to do so

If you have any special dietary needs, we ask you bring your own food so we can insure you’ll have food you can eat.

Q: What if I’m flying in to Seattle?

A: You can rent a car easily at the airport, but we suggest you go with Uber or Lyft and coordinate with another grad and share the cost. Taylor and Jim and other grads will have their cars there, so there will be no problem getting around during the weekend.
